Status from status tab and select image from gallery or shoot with camera as you wish. Unlike snapchat this feature does not have face filters as of now or may be they can add in later period. This is a bold move by the company to compete with snapchat. By adding so many features WhatsApp is certainly moving from basic text messaging platform to mini social media platform
WhatsApp as said has released its new feature called the “Status” globally and users in India here are already started using this. WhatsApp now doesn’t have that boring text status but instead it is multimedia, this means now you can share your photos or videos and keep it as your status which can be seen for 24 hours. This feature is similar to stories on Instagram and Snapchat.
WhatsApp in its blog post has mentioned “We are excited to announce that, coinciding with WhatsApp’s 8th birthday on February 24, we are reinventing the status feature. Starting today, we are rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way”. Your status updates are end-to-end encrypted.
Starting from today users can use status feature to send photos,videos,gifs.
This update is available to all users of Android,iOS and windows.
Along with this a new camera icon is seen in top left corner which helps you to shoot photos or videos quickly. Your status is visible to all in your contact by default but just like the last seen option you can choose either if the the option My contacts, My contacts except and Only share with. To see how many have seen your status click the eye icon just like snapchat has
